Why do countries import fakes – OECD 2025
The OECD is at the forefront of the fight against illicit trade, along with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). This report, published in May 2025, is a forensic examination of the global trade in counterfeit goods, which represents a large and growing proportion of global illicit trade. All legitimate trading channels, such as duty free, are negatively impacted by this growing phenomenon, and DFWC strongly supports the OECD's efforts to coordinate action against counterfeit and illicit trade.
