Illegal Vapes and Tobacco Trade in the UK

Following on recent coverage in UK national print media on the wide availability of illicit tobacco and vapes, further shocking examples of the prevalence of illicit goods, fraudulently labelled ‘duty free’, were recently highlighted by Jack Rankin, Member of Parliament of the United Kingdom, from his Windsor constituency.

On visits to stores in a local high street, one shop with no legitimate right to sell cigarettes offered packs of ‘Marlboro Gold’ and ‘Marlboro Red’. Both of these were branded with generic ‘UK Duty Free’ markings (illicit) and not in UK standardised packaging.

The packaging was easily identified as counterfeit and is a further example of fraudsters labelling counterfeit products “Duty-Free”, in an attempt to give them fraudulent legitimacy,  when these products have never been in the genuine duty-free supply chain.
